The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has a full-time opportunity for a Director of Financial & Tax Policy at our Indianapolis, IN location. This position executes strategic objectives related to insurance financial solvency, accounting, and tax issues in support of the State & Policy Affairs team at NAMIC.
Responsibilities for this position include, but aren’t limited to:
Serves as a Subject Matter Expert on legislative and regulatory developments at all levels of government and as a resource for NAMIC advocacy staff and member company staff.
Serves as an integral part of the NAMIC Public Policy Team to ensure comprehensive financial solvency, accounting, and tax issue coverage in conjunction with all NAMIC advocates.
Manages financial solvency, accounting, and tax issue portfolio and related member engagement.
Serves as chief staff liaison to the NAMIC Accounting and Finance Council and NAMIC Tax Council and other public policy development groups as established.
Establishes and maintains positive contacts with insurance regulators to advocate NAMIC’s strategic regulatory objectives; serves as an active, visible industry representative at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
Identifies and develops emerging financial, accounting, and tax issues of priority to member companies.
Develops position papers, testimonies, and other advocacy pieces on financial solvency, accounting, and tax issues as needed.
Communicates on relevant issues to NAMIC membership in an effective, readily understandable manner through oral presentations, written articles, issue briefs, NAMIC web content, or other relevant NAMIC media publications.
Qualifications include:
Minimum 10 years of experience working in accounting or tax policy related to the insurance industry.
Familiarity with the property/casualty insurance industry required.
Experience in issue management pertaining to insurance financial, accounting, and tax issues required.
Prior experience in advocacy before government organizations preferred.
Familiarity with trade associations preferred.
Flexibility to travel on an “as needed” basis, up to about 30 percent of the time.
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; CPA or equivalent preferred.
Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
