The ACLU of Indiana is seeking an experienced, mission-driven applicant for the position of a Finance and Operations Director. This is a new role, designed for a professional looking for a meaningful opportunity in a proven, growing, and vibrant organization that makes profound differences in the lives of people across our state. The Director will help operationalize the organization's culture by creating systems and controls that will ensure efficiency and accuracy around critical finance, operations, and administrative needs. The Finance & Operations Director also participates in setting organizational goals and priorities, implementing a personnel management system, and developing and managing the organization's budget. The Finance and Operations Director supervises the Office Manager and reports to the Executive Director. This position will be based in Indianapolis.
Bachelor's degree required preferably in Accounting, Business, or related field
Experience working in a non-profit or advocacy organization is preferred.
Strong financial management skills, including experience in budget planning and implementation, and creating, reading, and analyzing financial statements.
Advanced QuickBooks and Excel experience. Proficiency with office technology and information systems, including online communications, word processing, spreadsheets, and accounting software, as well as the flexibility and willingness to learn new tools, technology, and resources.
Should possess working knowledge of regulatory standards, including generally accepted accounting principles and non-profit compliance.
Ability to oversee the processing and calculating of payroll.
Good understanding of various employee benefit plans (e.g., HSA, & 401K) and their related effect on federal and state payroll tax calculations is a plus.
Ability to jump from task to task regularly and easily, to prioritize, to stay organized, and to complete assignments under sometimes tight deadlines.
Strong attention to detail with exceptional organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex processes in a clear and concise manner.
Experience that demonstrates good professional judgment, including the ability to exercise discretion and responsibly handle highly confidential information such as financial statements, personnel matters, and benefits and payroll information.
Strong interpersonal skills.
