POSITION TITLE: Senior Staff Accountant
DEPARTMENT: Accounting
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer
FLSA: exempt Job Group: administrative workers
General Summary: The senior staff accountant position is responsible for completion and maintenance of all general ledgers and financial reporting and analysis. It also includes the accurate reporting of cost of sales and maintaining inventory value in accordance with GAAP. He or she will work with all members of the accounting department to conduct period-end closing, provide cash flow forecasting, lead the annual financial audits, and conduct the annual physical inventory. In addition, this person must be an integral part of the management team, learning to provide ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs and variances back to underlying activities.
Essential Job Requirements:
- Preparation of all period Financial Statements
- Fully maintain General Ledger system (including, but not limited to)
- Journal Entries
- Month End Closing of G/L
- Month End Close Reconciliations
- Account Balance Analysis (Balance Sheet and Income Statement)
- Ensure accuracy of product costs including Bill of Materials (BOMs), routings, labor rates, overhead costs, etc.
- Monthly Material, Labor and OH variance analysis
- Analyze variances to standard cost; i.e.: purchase price, material usage, labor rate and usage, and report findings to management team in various report formats
- Maintain the standard cost system to generate accurate product costs/inventory values and meaningful variance analysis. Understand the reason for the cost change and obtain authorization for cost changes
- Validate the accuracy of the costing system and data by implementing a thorough testing process. Understand and assist with annual standard cost roll process
- Complete Inventory Reconciliations and oversee cycle count programs
- Identify, analyze, and forecast material costs not included in Standard costs and prepare weekly and monthly financial reports for management use
- Coordinate with Global Procurement to update purchased material records
- Manage and Control global standard cost updates within the ERP System. Complete oversight of costs within that system.
- Work with plant personnel to track profit of selected programs and analyzes profit deltas while monitoring production, scrap, labor reporting, and monthly reporting of Cost Of Quality performance for the manufacturing team
- Work with a cross-functional team including (Product Management, Finance, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Sales) to analyze costs of Purchasing, Design and Manufacturing on various cost studies and projects
- Work with Product Management and Sales to complete financial analysis for various manufacturing investment scenarios, including comparison between different machines, equipment, and processing locations as well as shipping scenarios.
- Maintain material cost amounts associated with our customer quoted piece price vs actual material costs and accrue for customer exposure adjustments
- Assist in the creation and analysis of departmental budgets
- Lead both internal and external Financial audits
- Develop, prepare and distribute management reports
- Advise on profitability of lines of business and products
- Project Work and other activities as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education and Experience: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with at least 6-8 years relevant experience. Those candidates that can speak directly to their experience in the responsibilities listed above are preferred.
