The Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Insurance Company Credit Analyst to join our team. This position will perform credit/financial analyses of life, health, and P&C insurance company members to assist Credit Services management in mitigating and managing the credit-related risk associated with insurance company members. Conduct financial and economic studies of the insurance industry to aid management in making prudent lending and collateral decisions related to insurance company members. Maintain knowledge of insurance industry developments and provide Credit Services management with updates regarding activities and events impacting insurance company members.

Credit Analyses - Perform credit/financial analyses and monitor the financial strength of life, health, and P&C insurance company members; mortgage insurers; and other insurance companies utilizing news articles and financial data provided by S&P Market Intelligence, regulatory financial statements, SEC filings, business plans, annual reports and confidential regulatory examination reports. Draft and prepare written financial reviews of these entities to support lending decisions and collateral requirements.
Financial Modeling and Assessment Tools - Assist in the maintenance, monitoring, and execution of robust credit analysis models and other financial assessment tools. Design reports and interpret the data outputs of the models and other tools to assist Credit Services management in their lending, collateral, and underwriting decisions.
Financial Research - Assist the Underwriting Manager by providing analyses, reports and other documentation regarding insurance company member underwriting for the purpose of on-going credit risk management, internal audits, risk assessment evaluations and regulatory examinations.
New Membership Applications – Review/process membership applications filed by prospective insurance company members. Review application materials for completeness and regulatory compliance, perform a credit/financial analysis of the prospective member assessing their financial strength, summarize findings in the application digest, and recommend approval/denial of the application.
Miscellaneous Duties - Develop expertise in credit risk analysis. Through the use of news services, seminars and training classes, remain current on insurance industry events/developments which affect the extension of credit to FHLBank Indianapolis insurance company members. Participate on internal committees as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or other related field. Advanced degree (Masters level+) in a business field and/or a professional certification (CPA or CFA) or relevant insurance work experience preferred.
Minimum of five years’ experience working directly in a financial institution preferably in a capacity providing relevant insurance work experience.
Strong understanding of statutory accounting, balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, funding sources, and capital types specific to insurance companies.
Must be detail-oriented and possess excellent analytical and communication skills. Ability to interact with top management of the FHLBank Indianapolis and its members. Ability to work and collaborate with team members.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products; including Word, Excel and Access. A strong understanding of Microsoft Excel and Access is desirable.
Must not have been convicted of any civil or criminal charge that would suggest a risk to Bank security.
Must have the ability to work full time.
Must have the ability to uphold and model the bank’s guiding principles.
